  “For what?” I ask softly.

“For loving me the way you do.” A kiss to my cheek. “For not being afraid to love again.” A kiss to my other cheek. “For telling me how much I mean to you.” A kiss to my nose. “For not giving up on us when I needed time.” A kiss to my forehead. “And lastly, for loving me for who I am. I know I come with a lot of baggage at times, and I’ve gotten us into bad situations, but you were always there to save me. I don’t know many men who would’ve stuck around after all that.” A kiss to my lips.

I hold her mouth captive, not letting her go. It grows desperate, heated, and eager. Sophie is my everything, and not one bone in my body doubts that we belong together.

“Soph…” I moan against her swollen lips. She’s rubbing her hot body against mine, my dick hard and threatening to burst out of my jeans. But this can’t wait. Not anymore.

  She smiles. “Hmm?”

  “Will you marry me?”

  Chapter Twenty-Two

  Sophie

My heart launches into my throat, choking me as I try to suck in air.

  Oxygen. I need oxygen.

As I try to breathe, my eyes flutter, wondering if I heard Mason right. We were making out, about to tear each other’s clothes off, and then he dropped a bomb.

  Will you marry me?

I finally clear my throat and look up at him. He’s staring at me, waiting for a response as if he’s just asked me what toppings I want on a pizza.

“What did you say?” I whisper, the beating in my chest echoing loudly in my ears.

Mason shifts off me and kneels on the bed, then grabs my hand and helps me upright. Face to face, he looks at me with a beaming smile and sparkling eyes. He takes both my hands in his and gently holds them. “I had planned on waiting until our final day here, but it feels like the perfect time to ask you right now. So without letting this moment go by…” Mason slides off the bed, reaches into one of his bags, then returns with a black velvet box.

I gasp, my throat too dry to form words. He smirks, grabs my hand, and helps me stand, then he drops to one knee in front of me. “Oh my God…” I whisper, my free hand trembling as it covers my mouth.

“My sweet Sophie…” He squeezes my left hand, then presses a soft kiss to my knuckles with a smile. “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without you, and I want to be the very best man for you, always. I love you more than words can express, and if you’d allow me to, I want to spend the rest of my life showing you how much you mean to me. Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife and marrying me?”

Tears fall down my cheeks before I even have time to catch them. I can’t believe this is happening. The man I love more than anything is asking me to marry him, and I’m speechless.

Finally, I find my voice as I frantically nod. “Yes! Yes, of course!”

“Yes?” he repeats with a wide grin.

“Yes!” I fall into him, wrapping my arms around his neck and holding tight. My entire body shakes as tears take over my vision, and Mason stands with me in his grip.

Once we’re both on our feet, he pulls back slightly and brushes his thumbs under my eyes. “You really said yes?”

Chuckling through my cries, I nod again. “I did!” When I finally get my emotions in check, I clear my throat and wipe my face. “I’m just so shocked.”

“I can tell,” he says, smirking. “Do you want to see the ring?”

“Oh my God, I forgot to even look!” I laugh. “Yes, show me!”

Mason grabs the box that fell to the floor, then opens and reveals the most stunning diamond I’ve ever seen.

“Wow, it’s gorgeous.” My jaw drops as he slides it onto my finger. A perfect fit. “I can’t believe you picked this out.”

  “Well, Maddie helped.” He shrugs.

  “Maddie knows?”

“Actually, no. I didn’t tell anyone except Liam. However, Maddie has not-so-subtly been sending me pictures of engagement rings for the past three months,” he explains, and we both start laughing. That little shit.

“Subtle isn’t in her vocabulary.” I snort.

“I wouldn’t say so, but it was actually helpful. She would send them randomly and tell me that she thought you’d like this one. Then she’d find another and would say if my budget allowed it, to get it instead.”

“I hope you weren’t thinking I was putting her up to that because I had no idea!”

“Oh, no. I know Maddie has a mind of her own.”

“That she does. In fact, we should probably be prepared for her to start sending baby and parenting magazines to the house now.”

“And then I’ll slip them into Liam’s room.”

I burst out laughing. “That’d give him nightmares.”

“I know.” Mason smirks, knowing damn well about Liam’s lack of commitment.

Staring at my finger, I twirl the ring around, and it feels so foreign being there. “You know what this means now, don’t you?”

I look up at him, biting my lip. He furrows his brows.

“You’re gonna have to meet my parents. My father isn’t going to like that you didn’t ask his permission first.”

“I was afraid of that…” He chuckles. “But hopefully, he’ll understand since we live in different states and haven’t even met.”

“Well, he forgave Hunter for lying about being married to Lennon, so I’m sure you’ll be fine,” I taunt. “Though, he did swoop in and care for the baby too…”

“Shit. He had brownie points to start. Wouldn’t saving their daughter’s life give me something?” His brows crease as if he’s actually thinking hard about this, which makes me smile.

“Oh, it definitely does.” I wink, pulling him closer. “It gives you all the brownie points.”

Mason wraps his arms around me, and we fall to the bed. We strip off each other’s clothes, and soon he’s inside me, stealing my breath, panting as our bodies colliding together.

“Fuck, baby. You feel so good. We feel so good,” he mutters into my neck.

I arch my back, meeting him thrust for thrust. My heart is so full right now, and all I want to do is feel every inch of him and give him every inch of me. “Oh my God…” I moan as my head falls to the side. My heels dig into his ass, pushing him closer into me, and when he hits just the right spot, I cry out his name.

Mason flips us around until I’m on top and straddling his waist. He palms my breasts and jerks his hips up into me. “Ride my cock, sweet girl. I want to see all of you.”

Biting down on my lower lip, I flatten my hands on his chest and rock against him. I love watching his facial expressions when I’m on top, knowing I’m giving him as much pleasure as he gives me.

“Fuck yes, baby. Just like that.” He grips my hips, moving my body faster. His thumb finds my clit, and when he rubs hard and faster, I come undone, arching back until I surface again. “Jesus,” he hisses. “That was so goddamn hot.”

Blushing at his words, I lean on top of him and devour his lips. With my forehead pressed against his, I increase my pace, knowing he’s close. “Yes, right there, babe. Don’t stop,” I encourage him when he slams into me, our bodies slapping together loudly. Moments later, he stalls, digging his fingertips into my skin and groaning out his release. I love watching him, the way the veins in his neck pop, and how tense his body goes.

“Christ, sweetheart.” Mason breathes out, his arms going limp next to him. Then he brings a hand up to my face and rubs his thumb along my cheek. “I fucking love you so much.”

I shift and slide off him, falling into his arms as we lie side by side. “I love you, Mason. I can’t believe we’re getting married!” I squeal because I’m pretty sure I’m still in shock.

“I can’t wait, baby. You’re going to be the future Mrs. Holt. Damn, that sounds hot.”

“Sophie Holt.” I test it out. “Mr. and Mrs. Mason Holt.” I grin. “Mrs. Mason Holt.”

Mason chuckles as I practice out loud with a cheesy grin on my lips. “Bette
r stop that. You’re getting my dick hard again.”

I snicker, snuggling into his side and wrapping my arm over his chest. “So…do you propose on all your first dates?”

He shakes his head, laughing. “Only on my very last first date.”

Three days fly by way too quickly. Every moment we spent at the resort was perfection. From the fancy dining and boat rides to the hiking and the midnight room service, it felt like a honeymoon before the wedding. In fact, I even suggested that we get married there.

Knowing Hunter and Lennon are getting hitched after the baby is born means we’ll hold off on making any plans for a while. Plus, it gives me more time to break the news to my parents. We want to enjoy being together and not rush this. Everything is perfect as is, but knowing we’re building a future together makes me the happiest woman in the world right now.

“So you think the house is still standing?” I tease as Mason takes the final exit off the highway before we get to our street.

“Well, he didn’t leave any frantic voicemails, so I’m thinking it’s safe.”

“Think my sisters will be surprised to hear the news? I can’t wait to tell them!” I gush, smiling just thinking about it. They’re going to lose their minds.

“I think they’ll be surprised but not shocked. They know we’re meant to be.” Mason smirks, still capable of sending butterflies to my stomach by just looking at me. I’m so damn happy, I feel like my heart will burst out of my chest.

Mason parks in the driveway, and we both grab our luggage from the trunk. “Let me grab them for you, fianceé.”

“Ooh, that sounds weird.” I giggle. “Fiancé.” I try it out. “I suppose I could get used to it, though.” When I hand him my bag, he leans down and gives me a quick kiss.

“Broke all kinds of first date rules for you.” He winks.

“Don’t tell me you get married on the second date…” I tease, shutting the door.

His smirk deepens. “Don’t tempt me, sweetheart. We’ll get a marriage license and call Aunt Sylvia right now.”

My eyes widen, and he chuckles. Before I can respond, Maddie flies out the front door with her arms open as she races toward me.

  What the hell?

“Ahhh! Lemme see! Lemme see!” She’s screaming, and I have no idea why.

  “What?”

Maddie nearly tackles me to the ground, but Mason catches me before I can fall. “The ring! Let me see!” she says between catching her breath. When I furrow my brows at her, she continues, “Oh my God. You said yes, right? Shit, did Mason chicken out?”

“How did you know about the ring?” I ask, then glance over my shoulder at Mason. “I thought you said you only told Liam?”

“Yeah, and Liam told me,” Maddie explains.

  Mason growls, shaking his head.

“Okay, well, to be fair, I made him tell me,” she adds, which makes me laugh. I don’t doubt for a second that Maddie could squeeze information out of Liam or anyone, for that matter.

“And why are you here?” Mason asks as we all walk into the house. That’s the question of the hour every time she’s over, which causes me to laugh.

“Well…there was a fire on campus and—”

“What?” I squeal, interrupting her. “Did your apartment burn down?”

“No, thankfully. The one next to us, however…anyway, they evacuated us because of smoke damage. I packed all my shit and called Liam.”

I smack her shoulder. “Why didn’t you call me? I’m your sister!”

We all walk into the living room where Liam is lounging in the recliner with a beer. Mason sets our luggage down and scowls at him. Liam responds with a grin.

“Liam texted me before you guys left and told me I wasn’t to bother you! He said it was your special weekend, and if I needed anything, he was on call. Of course, that sounded fishy as hell coming from Hulk, so when I did ask him to come get me, I bugged him enough until he finally told me and said I wasn’t allowed to reach out to you.”

“Way to play it cool, man,” Mason teases.

“Well, I didn’t expect her to actually need something! Go figure the one weekend you guys leave, she gets evicted.”

“I was not evicted!” Maddie defends. “Anyway, I’m not sure when they’re going to allow us back inside. I heard it’s pretty bad, though.”

“Don’t worry, you can stay here as long as you need,” I tell her, knowing Mason would agree with me. Whether or not Liam does is up for debate.

“Well, I’m glad because I have nowhere else to go, and I’ve been sleeping in your room. Also, I’m broke as fuck so…” She shrugs as if it’s nothing new. “Now.” She grabs my hand. “Let me see this rock.”

“Isn’t it stunning?” I beam proudly at my fiancé.

“Yeah, it’s perfect.” Maddie gives Mason a knowing grin. “Wonder how he knew what you liked?”

“No clue,” Mason intervenes. “Guess I’m just that good.”

“Oh, don’t even play!” Maddie pushes a finger into his chest. “You’re welcome.”

“Pfft. I would’ve figured it out, ya know?”

“Mmhmm, sure.” Maddie snickers. “Aren’t you so excited to have me as a sister now?”

“Yeah, I didn’t quite think this through…” Mason makes a face and scratches the back of his head. “Might need to reconsider that proposal, Soph…” he taunts with a smirk. “Two Corrigan sisters.”

“Just tell them both that you’re their favorite, and they’ll leave you alone.” I grin.

“I’m going to unpack and do laundry since I have to be back at work tomorrow,” Mason tells me, then presses a kiss to my forehead. “Guess you’re sleeping with me tonight…” He waggles his brows as he walks backward toward the stairs.

“Oh hell, I’m gonna need earplugs, aren’t I?” Maddie groans, crossing her arms.

“I have an extra pair,” Liam chimes in. “Bought them just in case.”

“Oh my God, you guys act like we’re doing BDSM or something.” I shake my head at them. “And you should talk, Liam!” I take a throw pillow off the couch and chuck it at him. “If I’m greeted by your morning wood one more time, I’m buying you a robe!”

“I’m not sure if coming here was a good thing or not…” Maddie mocks. “You guys fight like siblings.”

“This is how they show love,” Mason teases before making his way upstairs.

“So did you tell Lennon about the proposal?” Maddie asks as she follows me into my room. I need to unpack and do laundry too, which means I have to beat Mason to the washer. I chuckle to myself, knowing he’d let me have it first anyway if I asked.

  “Not yet.”

“How do you think Mom and Dad will react?” Maddie sits on the bed, making herself at home. “You two are really making it hard for me. By the time I have a baby or get married, they’re going to be expecting the worst.”

Laughing, I shrug. “Perks of being the little sister.”

“They’re not perks! But maybe that means they won’t give me any shit for anything I do. You two will have worn them down by then.”

“See? There ya go. You’re welcome.” Once my suitcase is emptied, I take my hamper to the laundry room and put in a load. “I think after Lennon put them in their place, they’ve toned down a bit. Mason and I living together won’t be such a shock,” I tell her once I’m back in my room. “It’s the being engaged before they met Mason that might hurt them. But it’s not like it’s on purpose. We don’t live in Utah, so it makes it harder to just introduce them to the guys we’re dating.”

“Well, and if you factor in the first time you guys hooked up, you’ve been dating for over three years.”

“Ha-ha, funny. I’m not going to tell them that, and neither are you.” I point my finger at her. “They know our story, and once they do get to meet him, I have no doubt they’ll love him.”

“They totally will,” she reassures me. “I really am so excited for you guys. You two deserve it so much.”<

Maddie stands and gives me a hug. “Thank you. I’m still in shock, I think. But it was awesome to spend the weekend together just the two of us, so…thanks for not calling.” I burst out laughing when she scowls at me. “Oh, I bet you loved being here alone with Liam anyway.”

“It hasn’t been so bad, I guess. I mean, it’s only been two days, and he sleeps till noon.”

I nod. “Yeah, he does that when he’s between bounties because he doesn’t sleep that well on the road. He stays up for long hours at a time, plus hotel beds suck.”

“It was nice to just hang out. I’m gonna wear him down eventually.”

Smiling at her determination, I wrap my arm around her shoulder and squeeze. “I have no doubt that you will.”

  Epilogue

  Mason

  SIX MONTHS LATER

“Mmm…you’re so warm,” Sophie murmurs against my chest, which causes me to laugh, considering California has hot as fuck summers and it’s the middle of June. “Ignore the alarm and stay in bed.”

I silence my phone and wrap my arms around her. “Wish we could, baby.” I drag my nose along the planes of her face until I find her lips. “Let’s go take a shower together. Then we’ll have twice as long.”

Sophie wraps her leg over my hip and pushes my erection against her pussy. She hums with a smile, keeping her eyes closed. “Soph…” I warn, watching as she bites her lip.

Since Maddie moved in after Thanksgiving, Sophie’s been in my bed every night, and it’s just how I want it. My future wife should only ever be in my bed. Even though the students in Maddie’s apartment got relocated to another building while they remodeled, Sophie liked spending more time with her, so she asked her to stay through the summer. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Maddie just moves in, considering the room is available anyway. She has one more year of school before she graduates, and I know when Sophie and I get married, we’ll find a place of our own.
